Ruth Hollick

Ruth Hollick

BCU's accompanist at all our rehearsals and many of our concerts is Ruth Hollick. Ruth joined us in 2006 and her great talent as an accompanist and her calm, cheerful disposition is greatly appreciated by both our Music Director, Michael Greenhalgh and choir members.

Ruth was born in Plymouth, Devon and comes from a large musical family. Her father has always been involved in the world of music, founding and still conducting the Laira Youth Brass Band and so encouraged his six children to learn to play musical instruments from a very early age. Ruth started to learn the piano at the age of five and the tenor horn at six.

Ruth was destined to pursue a career in music and moved to Manchester to study for six years at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Here she was awarded a First Class Honours degree in Music, a distinction on her Postgraduate Diploma course and finally completed her studies as a piano accompaniment scholar with Carole Presland.

Alongside the piano, Ruth also plays the baritone and is a member of the championship section band, Rainford Silver, based in St. Helens.  She considers herself fortunate to be able to combine her career as an accompanist with her passion for brass bands; she regularly performs with brass soloists and for solo competitions.

BCU feels very fortunate to have such a talented accompanist and acknowledges the important role that she plays in helping to maintain the high musical standard of the choir. She has a very busy schedule combining working as a Staff Pianist at the RNCM and the University of Salford, with being official accompanist to both BCU and the Haydock Male Voice Choir.
