Do join us for a wonderful selection of operatic choruses and arias, including the Pearl Fishers' duet, the Toreador's Song from Carmen, Marguerite's The Jewel Song from Gounod's Faust and Mattinata by Leoncavallo, surely one of the most famous of tenor arias. BCU will also sing four choruses including the famous Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves by Verdi.

But that is not all.................

Mention the name Puccini and most people think of opera, La Bohėme, Tosca, Madame Butterfly and Turandot. Yet his musical career began by playing and composing church music. The wonderful Messa Di Gloria was his graduation thesis, composed when he was only 22 years old and the first performance was greeted with rapturous acclaim. However, after watching a performance of Verdi's opera Aida he knew which musical pathway he was destined to follow and the Gloria was only rediscovered and performed again some 70 years later. When you hear this lovely work you may wish that he had found time to write more sacred works.
