Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on June 28th 1914 and on July 28th the same year the Great War began. We will commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War with a programme of words and music.

Dona Nobis Pacem, (grant us peace), is possibly one of Vaughan Williams most famous choral works. Having already experienced the horrors of WW1, this passionate expressive cantata, composed in 1936, was intended as a warning that yet another disastrous war was imminent.

The choir will also sing movements from Fauré's moving and beautiful Requiem.

Poems by several of the War Poets will be read by members of Bolton Little Theatre.

We are pleased to welcome back our two soloists, Jennifer Rust, soprano and Oliver Dunn, baritone, to Bolton, both of whom sang in our popular Opera Favourites evening in November 2013.

In contrast gentle, reflective music will be played by our superb resident accompanist, Ruth Webb and the orchestra.
